I’m Marlena and I run Where You Get Your Protein with my husband. Together, we aspire to show everyone how delicious and comforting vegan food can be. All your favorite meals are still possible while remaining animal cruelty-free. We stick to organic ingredients as much as possible and always make sure they’re GMO-free.
Going vegan made my husband and I more aware of our food choices. With GMO’s being pushed into the stores, we began growing as much food as possible. In the winter, we harvest our own carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, lettuce and green onions. In the summer, we love growing organic tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, potatoes and zucchini. –Just to name a few–
Our Vegan Story
Our vegan transformation happened overnight. My husband went off to bed and I aimlessly searched Netflix documentaries. I came across “Forks Over Knives”, not knowing it would change our lives. Being curious about veganism, I pressed play. The next morning I vowed to my husband to never consume animal products again. It didn’t take much to convince him, he was all for it.
Transitioning our then 4-year-old daughter to veganism was a fairly easy. She’s always been picky, but willing to try new foods. I would tell her broccoli and other veggies made her strong when she ate them. She’d clear her plate and have me check out the muscles she gained. 👧💪 Now she loves all types of vegetable-based soups, tofu, and fruit.

With limited options of vegan restaurants near us, I had to master vegan cooking. At first I struggled, trying recipe after recipe feeling like I didn’t know how to cook. So, when I created a meal my family equally enjoyed, I took note of it–what we liked and didn’t like. From there I began experimenting with ingredients and recipes. Now I enjoy being in the kitchen and we have transitioned to eating only at home. I’m excited to share all my new recipes with you and I hope you enjoy them as well!
Happy cooking from Where You Get Your Protein!
